Causly ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website at causly.dev, our API, our VSCode extension, and any related services (collectively, the "Service").
By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Name
- Email address
- Password (securely hashed — we never store plaintext passwords)
- Profile information from third-party login providers (if you sign up via a third-party account)
2.2 Video Content
When you upload screen recordings for analysis, we collect the video file and its metadata. We also generate and store derivative data from the video as part of the analysis process, including transcriptions and analysis results.
2.3 Codebase Data
When you use our codebase indexing feature, source code content and related metadata from your project is transmitted to and stored on our servers. This data may also be shared with third-party service providers as necessary to deliver the Service. All transmissions occur over encrypted connections. You can delete your codebase data at any time from your account settings.
2.4 Payment Information
Payment is processed by a third-party payment processor. We do not directly collect or store your credit card numbers or bank account details. We receive subscription status, plan information, and billing history from our payment processor.
2.5 Usage Data
We automatically collect usage data such as feature usage, error logs, IP addresses, and performance metrics for security, rate limiting, and service improvement purposes.
2.6 Cookies and Analytics
We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We may also use third-party analytics and bot protection services that set their own cookies. See Section 10 for more details.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- Process and analyze your uploaded content.
- Manage your account, subscriptions, and license keys.

We implement commercially reasonable security measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit, secure password storage, access controls, rate limiting, and input validation. We rely on our infrastructure providers for encryption of data at rest.
While we strive to protect your data, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
7.1 Right of Access

7.2 Right to Rectification
You can update your account information at any time through your account settings.
7.3 Right to Deletion
You can delete individual videos and codebases from your dashboard. To request full account deletion and removal of all associated data, contact us at hello@causly.dev. Upon deletion, we will remove your account information, videos, analyses, source code data, and license keys. Certain data may be retained as required by law (e.g., billing records for tax purposes).
7.4 Right to Data Portability
You can request an export of your data in a machine-readable format by contacting us at hello@causly.dev.
7.5 Right to Object
You can object to our processing of your personal data for certain purposes, such as marketing. We do not use your data for marketing purposes without your consent.
